Survivor has had an interesting start to Season 47, especially in terms of who has been eliminated first and the overwhelming hunt for idols that we saw last week. But we expect nothing less from a series that is all about "Outwit, Outplay, Outlast."
After losing the immunity challenge in episode 2, Tuku was back on their beach after a tribal council that saw them vote out a strong competitor in TK. While Kyle seemed lost, the ladies were clearly celebrating their "win."
It was a much quieter start to an episode than last week, even as the Gata tribe had some drama to kick things off. The problem in the Gata tribe is the bamboo being uncomfortable to sleep on, while Sam wants people to actually think about something more important: fishing for food. (In this case, Sam is not wrong in wanting to prioritize getting food.)
Speaking of food, it turns out that Rome is all about the fishing life in the Lavo tribe. And he is not happy with his tribe and how he feels like they are not helping him in any way. After catching a few fish and then having to do the prep work on them, he ended up eating two of them himself, which seemed to upset the members of his tribe.
At this point, it seems like some tribes are working together better than others, and that makes perfect sense looking at all of these interesting personalities.
Towards the start of Day 6, the tribes are surprised with speed boats. And we all know what that means: It's time for a Journey.
Kyle from Tuku, Annika from Gata, and Rome from Lavo end up going on the first Journey of Season 47. As the three meet on the beach for their journey, they start sharing information about their tribes. And some of the information may or may not be true, but they don't know that.
As Kyle, Annika, and Rome go off on their own, they find that they have a bag they have to reach into at least once, where they will either get a reward or a lose-your-vote punishment. And they also have a chance to reach into the bag one more time.
Kyle loses his vote right away, so he chooses not to go back for another chance. Annika also loses her vote and sticks with her punishment as well. Rome on the other hand pulls the advantage, which allows him to steal someone's vote. (Rome gets to vote twice, while the other person doesn't get a chance to vote at all.)
The Tribal Story
Annika gets back to the beach and tells her team that they wanted to know if Sam and Sierra were a couple. When Kyle gets back to his beach, he in fact does reveal to his team that they are not a couple, but they are working together. Kyle admits to his team that he lost his vote. Annika lies and tells her team that she chose not to play in order to save her vote. But afterward, she did tell her alliance that she lost her vote because it was mandatory to play.
Over at Lavo, Rome lies to his team as well. He tells them that he lost his vote. But when he walks off with Teeny, he tells her the truth that he got a Steal a Vote Advantage. He also shares the news with Genevieve and Kishan, who are also part of his alliance. (Although based on Teeny's production interview, it sounds like this alliance was built on the knowledge that Rome has all these advantages and is willing to be honest about it with her and the others.)
Our third immunity challenge has us back out in the water for a challenge that will see a tribe member climbing up a tall tower to jump into the ocean. They will then swim to a crate which they must climb over and then dive in to get a key, once they have the key they have to walk across a balance beam in the water and then swim to a platform with puzzle pieces waiting for them. From there, the rest of the tribe will have to do the same thing, but this time in pairs. On the way, the duos will find more keys. Then they must build a seahorse puzzle.
This immunity challenge comes with rewards for the two winning teams. Team one gets a tarp and hammocks, while team two will get a tarp, but no hammocks. It's definitely a good prize for anyone struggling to sleep on the bamboo.
Kyle, Rome, and Andy head out first as the leads for their teams. Kyle is definitely in the lead pretty quickly and he maintains his lead until the end. Gata ends up behind after Andy struggles to get over the balance beam, but Lavo also ends up struggling, giving Gata a chance to catch up.
After struggling a bit to get to the puzzle, Gata ends up winning the big prize and being the first team to win immunity. Right behind them is Tuku, who ends up getting the smaller immunity prize. In the end, Lavo ends up heading to the tribal council.
The Tribal Vote
Following their loss, Sol admits to the cameras that he thinks Rome is lying about losing his vote (and as we know, he is right). And back at the Lavo beach, the vote seems to be between Sol and Aysha. Rome wants both of them out, and while he started off wanting Aysha out, the vote seems to be going towards Sol after Teeny tells him that she thinks it is better to get the other man out.
In this first tribal council for Lavo, Sol admits to Jeff that he doesn't feel safe. Rome shares that being paranoid can shift the vote onto the person who expresses that they don't feel like they are good with the tribe. It's an interesting discussion, because we know this tribe has an alliance happening, and Kishan even admits that there is "a core four." But what does this mean for the vote?
Right before the vote, Aysha makes one final comment. She says that she hopes the person who agreed to vote with her sticks to their word. And that definitely feels like it leaves the vote wide open.
Before Jeff reads the votes, Rome plays his idol for himself. Rome, Genevieve, Sol, and Aysha all get votes. But with three votes on her name, in the end, it is Aysha who ends up getting voted out.
And as she goes to get her torch snuffed she asks one final question. She turns to Sol and asks if he voted for her. He immediately answers no (he voted for Rome).
